It"d be a pretty short-sighted move to give up the fourth pick to try to get a piece to compete next year. Even with one of the names floated out (McCollum, Derozan, Love), I"m not sure that vaults the Grizzlies into the top half of the West and it certainly doesn"t put them in contention with Golden State.

It"s not about winning a championship. It"s about running the franchise as a business and ownership thinking that this maximizes revenue by making the playoffs/keeping the fan base involved.

Small market teams need to constantly be in playoff contention to remain relevant.
